Can't remember the exact year, but I do remember starting out on Dan's quiz back before Andrew took over in 2003, and in all that time, I've never
done better than Silver. It may have taken almost a decade, but I finally took Gold! I only wish that I had a quiz that better represented what it took
to get here—some awesome theme or bonus quiz...
Unfortunately, life got in the way and I only had about an hour to choose these shots from the hundred or so randomly collected on my laptop.
I tried to get as good a mix of films as I could, and I really hope each one is identified by at least one person. I attempted to put the shots in order
from easiest to hardest—wonder how close I came:
A: Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me(1999) -- If IMDb votes are any indication, this film has been watched by more people than the others
combined! Goldmember was a college staple for me—I probably watched it with friends about 50 times. However, it was Tim Robbins' cowardly
President that stuck in my mind for this shot. And if his half-face was too hard to ID, maybe some of you recognized Lt. Boyle from The Silence of the Lambs...
B: Swing Time (1936) -- I realize now that this film may not have been seen by many people, but Rogers and Astaire are pretty easy to recognize.
I'm guessing some might guess Top Hat, but with the right Google search (e.g. "movie Rogers Astaire lipstick") others should be able to get this
without ever having seen the film. And, for anyone who hasn't seen this, please do. Some amazing chemistry between two VERY talented performers.
C: Teeth (2007) -- Wanted to choose a recent film, but nothing too recent. This little film grossed less than $350,000 in the US but it did garner
some buzz when it was released on DVD. Whose ears wouldn't perk up when hearing the words "vagina dentata" (and yes that is what you think it is) as a
plot point? I admit, you have to get lucky with your Google search here (e.g. "movie doctor 'fingers bitten off'") but I'm hoping some of our regulars may
have seen this film to keep it from being unidentified.
D: In the Heat of the Night (1967) -- I might be wrong, assuming the Best Picture winner will be the hardest to ID, but this is a film that I've only
seen for the first time last year. And since I don't really know how easily you could search for this one, I'm guessing only people who have seen this will
get it. I expected a lot of great funnies for this shot, and you all did not disappoint; it was very hard to narrow this list to three! Plus, I think
the quiz could always use some more skin—hopefully this wasn't too NSFW for anyone....
This week there were 9 participants with 7 getting at least one answer right.
Thanks to all for playing, and congratulations to all who guessed correctly!
